Green Power: Why Using A Battery Charger Is Better For The Environment
It is true that nearly every device contains one type of battery or other. These range from the large batteries found in vehicles right through those found in mobile phones, laptops and children's toys. The number of batteries that you have and are responsible for can be truly astounding.
What you may not know is that a lot of batteries are now classified as toxic and hazardouswaste. Another thing that you may not know is that it is also now possible to recycle batteries in [...]
The Future Is Renewable Energy
We have come along way in developing societies that have electricity and the power necessary to fuel vehicles and for industry to be successful. All of these efforts though rely upon the use of energy source that comes from fossil fuels.
They are found in the ground and have to be processed in order for us to have that fuel and that electricity. They are known as coal, natural gas, and fuel. We rely on them way too much for our own good and that is why change is so important.
Renewable Energy And Winds Of Change
Across the plains where there is open land, or across the seas where there is no land, the wind is able to move at high speeds. This is due to there not being any buildings or homes in the area to break it up. This is the perfect location for wind power to be generated and collected.
The use of windmills to create energy has been around for a very long time. Of course these windmillswere quite small compared to what is out there just to create the energy. Not all spaces are righ [...]
Wind Power to the Rescue
Wind power turbines could very well be the answer to your electricity bill woes. Energy prices continue to rise, and, unless you have an abundance of money to accommodate these prices, it may be time to find alternate renewable energy sources. With the aid of the very thing that blows naturally in your environment, you can not only eliminate, or at least reduce, your electric bill, you may even be able to earn money in the process.
The kinetic energy that flows in great quan [...]
Tracking Carbon Emissions
Throughout the United States, carbon emissions are being tracked via the innovative software developed by scientists from the Vulcan Project at Purdue University. Sources that emit these carbon emissions, such as power plants, industrial sources, and mobile sources, are inventoried and combined with other inventories to create a complete map of fossile fuel CO2 emissions.
So, what isthe purpose of this? According to Alternative Energy's website, the overall goal of the V [...]
The How To of Hydropower Plants
Although hydropower plants may not seem like a hot commodity to some people, in reality they provide around 24 percent of the world's electricity. In addition, more than 1 billion people receive their power through these hydropower plants. Currently, in the United States there are over 2000 hydropower plants in operation, ranking this energy source as the biggest renewable energysource in the nation.
Global Warming 101
We hear about global warming all the time. It is a highly debated topic, and one that has sparked action regarding renewable energy sources, environmentally friendly products, and a whole host of other things. But what is it?
E.ON UK defines global warming as "A rise in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere due to the i [...]
Thin-Film Solar Panels
Due to rising energy costs, various cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions, such as solar energy, are on the rise. One of the newest advancements in solar panels is thin-film solar panels. According to Sam Greyhawk, "thin-film solar panels use a manufacturing process which involves applying multiple thin layers of a sunlight re [...]
Hydrogen Vehicles
Hydrogen cars are becoming more and more popular as car manufacturers are heeding the call to become more energy efficient. Last week there were a few posts regarding various initiatives, namely Norway's HyNor and California's Hydrogen Highway Network, which looked at how these two places were working on ways to bring the technologies of hydrogen to their locations. Today, I thought we would end the month by looking at various hydrogen vehicles that are curren [...]
Energy Solutions for Various Types of Buildings Part 4
In attempt to spread the solutions that the Department of Energy has so graciously posted on their website, the past several posts have been on the topic of ways to make your building more energy efficient. As we have seen, some buildings are easier than others in succeeding at this goal. For example, single and multifamily dwellings are fairly simple to make energy efficient. However, others, such as retail buildings and healthcare buildings, such as hospitals [...]

The Proposed Climate Protection Plan of Cincinnati
In what is likely an attempt to jump on board with the rest of the nation's plans to utilize renewable energy sources, the mayor of Cincinnati has proposed a plan that outlines a 2 percent greenhouse gas emissions reduction each year all the way through to 2028. His climate protection plan was unanimously approved of by the committee that Mayor Mark Mallory appointed lastNovember.
The goals of the mayor's plan, according to the 209 page proposal, [...]
The Hydrogen Road of Norway
In the last post, the focus was on California's Hydrogen Highway Network initiative. This one will look at a similar initiative, but on a global scale. HyNor, the Hydrogen Road of Norway, joins various industries together in order to accomplish a goal that has been in the making for several years. Although 2008 is the final year of this project it began in 2005. The beginning conceptualization started 2 years prior that in 2003.
Hydrogen Highway
Back in 2004, California began its Hydrogen Highway Network (CaH2Net) initiative with several hopes in mind. According to their official website, "the mission of the CaH2Net is to support and catalyze a rapid transitionto a clean, hydrogen transportation economy in California in order to:

We are at a point in our economy where everything related to money seems to be on the rise. Energy costs have not escaped this increase; in fact, thanks to the fact that crude oil has risen to $115 per barrel, operating anything that requires this form of energy causes a ghastly expense for consumers. It is almost not an exaggeration [...]
